Title of film: Bangladesh Turtles
During Kali Puja, an annual festival in Bangladesh, sacrifices are made to Kali, goddess of power. It's a time of celebration and feasting and on the top of the menu is turtle. Thousands of turtles are slaughtered indiscriminately each year, many of which are threatened species. Authorities in the region are hesitant to stop the slaughter, for fear of a causing a social uprising when religious tensions are already great. We speak to festival goers, traders, buyers and local conservationists. Culture versus conservation, is there a middle ground?
